cities
Morocco has a part of the western Sahara . Some of the important
cities here are : Tarfaya, Laayoune, Smara and Dakhla.
Tarfaya
is a small coastal town near Cape Juby. The city started to
thrive only at the end of the n19th century. Nowadays, the population
consists mainly of nomad tribes. Fishing is the most important industry.
The most interesting part of Tarfaya is probably the Casamar Building
(house in the sea). There are some beautiful beaches, with a special
attraction : ship wrecks ! In the city of Laayoune
lovers of handicrafts can shop to their liking in the "Centre
Artisanal". Smara was a
historic town, but not much is left from the past. Only the mosque is important. Those
who like surfing and fishing can go to Dakhla.
A lot of ocean fishermen come here to catch their own fish and to fry it
after the catch.
The Western Sahara does not have that much to offer, apart from these
cities. However, if you want to feel the real desert spirit, it is
advised to spend a few days here and to undertake some excursions.
