York Minster is one of the great cathedrals of the world, and the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. At the Jorvik Viking Centre you can discover what life was like over 1000 years ago. Visitors journey through the reconstructed Viking Age streets, as they would have looked in the year AD975. ‘Shambles’ is a street in the city centre and often called Europe's best preserved Medieval street, although the name is also used to refer to the surrounding maze of narrow, twisting lanes and alleys. The street itself is mentioned in the Domesday Book, so has been in existence for over 900 years. The National Railway Museum in York, is the largest railway museum in the world, responsible for the conservation and interpretation of the British national collection of historically significant railway vehicles and other artefacts. The Museum contains an unrivalled collection of locomotives, rolling stock, railway equipment, documents and records.

By Car - From the York ring road (A1237), turn on to the A19 signposted York centre. - Follow the road all the way to York for 2.3 miles (3.7 km). - Turn right before the walled gate which is signposted Marygate. - Jorvik Hotel is three quarters of the way down. On Foot Walk straight through York Museum's gardens. Jorvik hotel is directly opposite.
