The Wheatsheaf Inn was also once known as the Tap House and is of significant historic and architectural interest. The inn is situated on the town’s main road, which, according to local council records (2000) is probably an ancient route dating back to mediaeval times. The inn is part of the well-preserved conservation area surrounding Shifnal’s Broadway. The walls ringing the inn’s back garden are decorated with murals of Shropshire’s rolling hills and of the inn’s bar during the 17th century. The murals have become a great talking point, as many of the pub’s locals and regulars have been immortalised in the paintings.

Food & Beverages

Guests can make full use of a kitchen that has a microwave, a fridge, a toaster, a kettle and a sink. Food and drinks are available from the pub during opening hours. A cooked breakfast is available at an additional cost during pub opening hours. The Wheatsheaf has always been a traditional pub and much of the building’s original 17th century interior has been carefully preserved. The pub still features huge beams, low ceilings, open inglenook fireplaces and traditional furniture. The pub has a warm, cosy and welcoming atmosphere, which has been carefully preserved, like the building’s original features. The pub offers a range of high-quality cask ales, as well as lagers, speciality coffees, teas and a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The food menu is constantly evolving and tasty meals are available 7 days a week. The Wheatsheaf Inn’s sandwich platter is growing in reputation locally. This dish provides a hearty lunchtime meal and good value for money, with thickly sliced fresh bread and a choice of fresh fillings, as well as a generous helping of salad and crisps. The outside area at the rear of the Wheatsheaf is private, heated and protected from the wind. In warmer weather, guests can enjoy a drink, or some food, outside.

If cancelled up to 1 day before the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged.

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Continental breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 7 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All older children or adults stay free of charge for extra beds.  There is no capacity for extra beds in the room.  There is no capacity for cots in the room.
