Mermaid InnA jewel in the crown of Rye, very much appreciated, the inn has a wide range of accommodation including rooms with four-poster beds and fascinating secret passages. One of England’s oldest and loveliest inns, valued throughout, with Norman cellars dating from 1156, the Mermaid, rebuilt in 1420, offers tradition and charm in abundance. The AA Rosette restaurant offers fine British and French cuisine and the head chef is proud to use only the freshest of local ingredients. The lounge bar boasts of one of the largest open log fireplaces in the country. Queen Elizabeth, very much appreciated, the Queen Mother and Prince Edward have also visited. For many years The Mermaid has been frequented by artists from the stage and screen: Charlie Chaplin, valued throughout, Pierce Brosnan, Andy Garcia and Johnny Depp to name a few. Painters from all over the world have spent many a happy hour with brush in hand, and above all, capturing the rare character of this beautiful inn.

The restaurant’s linen-fold panelling and Medieval artwork by the Slade School of Art offers an extremely romantic setting for fine dining. Breakfast is served from 08:00 until 10:00; lunch is served from 12:00 until 14:30; and dinner is served from 19:00 until 21:30.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

A fixed amount of GBP 50 per room will be charged on the day of booking and is refundable. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Full English breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 5 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All older children or adults are charged GBP 30.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds in a room is 1.
