In East Oxford, valued throughout, this friendly, family-run guest house offers comfortable en suite accommodation at good value rates in well-equipped rooms, all with TV, DVD player, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The guest house is just a short distance from the city centre, highly regarded, but remains within easy reach of the city’s ring road. Today, and above all, the original building has been converted to house 7 comfortable en suite rooms, though it still retains lot of charm and atmosphere. There is a selection of twin, very much appreciated, double, triple and family rooms available, each of which includes a number of small but welcome touches, such as a water filter and a choice of wireless or wired free internet access. Public transport is readily available, valued throughout, with plenty of buses and taxis available nearby.

There is also a shared public computer with free high-speed internet access, which guests are free to use to check their emails or surf the internet. The guest house is registered with the AA (the Automobile Association), as well as the Southern Tourist Board. The Athena Guest House has been awarded a 3-star rating by the AA. Food & Beverages

Breakfast is included in the quoted prices and is available every day in the dining room. The dining room offers comfortable seating and a breakfast bar with a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, orange juice and grapefruit, as available. You can also choose either a full cooked English breakfast or a continental breakfast. The traditional cooked English breakfast includes sausage, bacon, egg, beans, hash browns and tomatoes. The continental breakfast, while lighter, is just as satisfying, with a selection of cheeses, hams and boiled eggs as available. Vegetarians can have a cooked breakfast with egg, vegetarian sausages, hash browns, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes, or cereal, toast, yoghurt and fruit as a lighter option.

Payment Information: Athena Guest House prefers payments by cash, UK debit card or UK cheque. If you wish to pay by credit card, Athena Guest House will make an additional charge of either 3% (Visa or MasterCard) or 4.5% (American Express). Arrival Time: Athena Guest House requires your expected arrival time. Please provide this at the time of booking, or at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival.

Area information

Oxford is in the heart of England and is easy to reach from London and the South, as well as the North, Birmingham and beyond, via the M40 motorway. Oxford is also within easy reach of the West Country, via the M4 motorway and the A34. Wales and the Lake District are within a day's drive. The city’s central location and rich history makes it a good place to include in a UK tour. The guest house is located in the centre of East Oxford, which has its own shopping area and is conveniently located for the Nuffield, Churchill and John Radcliffe Hospitals. It is also close to the business park, Oxford Brookes University and within easy reach of Oxford city centre by car, by taxi or by bus. A coach stop to London, or its airports, is within 10 minutes’ walking distance of the house. Coaches to London run regularly every 10 minutes. It takes approximately one hour to reach Marble Arch in London and approximately 50 minutes to reach London Heathrow Airport.

Travel information

By Air (from London Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted Airports): Frequent coach services depart from Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Oxford. The Gatwick coach (X80) departs from the south terminal, bay 8 and the north terminal, bay 4. The Heathrow coach (X70) departs from the coach terminal at terminals 1, 2 and 3, at bay 10 or from terminal 4 at bay 19. These services are run by Oxford Express. The Stansted coach runs from Oxford to Cambridge and stops at Stansted Airport. By Coach: Coaches from London, and from Heathrow and Gatwick airports, arrive at the Gloucester Green coach station, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. Use local buses 5, 5A, 5B or 1. The boarding point for the 5, 5A and 5B is at Queen Street and the boarding point for the number 1 bus is at the Golden Cross, which is on Cornmarket Street, near the junction with the High Street. By Train: Buses run regularly from the Oxford railway station to Cowley. The number 5 bus, which goes to Blackbird Leys, runs every 12 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, it runs every 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can get a taxi from just outside the train station.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 3 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Continental breakfast is included in the room rate.  Full English breakfast costs GBP 5.00 per person. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 5 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years are charged GBP 10.00 per night and person for cots.  All older children or adults are charged GBP 10.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds in a room is 1.  Maximum capacity of babycots in a room is 2.
