The award-winning St John’s Restaurant serves a 4-course seasonal menu of traditional English cuisine, prepared by the Head Chef. The recently refurbished Bar Restaurant also serves a range of traditional favourites, accompanied by local real ales, fine wines and malt whiskies. All meals are provided using the freshest local produce.

Group Bookings: Group bookings are welcome, including hen and stag nights. If you are planning on bringing your pet, please contact the hotel prior to your arrival.

By Car: From the North: - Take the M6. - Exit at junction 40. - Take the A66 toward Keswick. - Before Keswick, turn onto the A591 toward Windemere. - The Kings Head Hotel is located 6 miles south of Keswick on the A591. From the South: - Take the M6. - Exit at junction 36. - Take the A590 toward Windemere and the A591. - Continue to Thirlmere. - The Kings Head Hotel located 20 miles to the north of Windemere on the A591. By Train: From the North: Take the train to Carlisle and transfer to the Number 555 bus for Lancaster from outside the station, asking the driver to stop at The Kings Head Hotel at Thirlmere. From the South: Take the train to Windemere and transfer to the Number 555 bus for Carlisle from outside the station, asking the driver to stop at The Kings Head Hotel at Thirlmere. By Bus From the North: Take the Number 555 bus from Carlisle toward Lancaster from outside the train station at Carlisle, asking the driver to stop at The Kings Head Hotel at Thirlmere. From the South: Take the Number 555 bus for Carlisle from outside the train station at Windemere, asking the driver to stop at The Kings Head Hotel at Thirlmere.

Hotel policies

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 7 days before date of arrival, a fixed amount of GBP 40.00 will be charged.  If cancelled later, the first night will be charged.  In case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Full English breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 1 year stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All children from 2 to 13 years are charged GBP 15.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 2.
