Some of our rooms and suites lead unto the tranquil inner garden, and the others look unto the Oberlinden (the upper lime tree) – the prettiest square in Freiburg. All rooms offer our guests a special historical atmosphere and sense of tradition, beautifully combined with all modern-day conveniences and comfort. Hotel guests may use the in-house sauna free-of-charge.

Hotel details

The name of the hotel is German for the Red Bear. Not only is our hotel the oldest guesthouse in Germany (dating back to 1120), but it is among the oldest buildings in Freiburg. The long line of landlords and innkeepers can be traced directly back to the Bienger family in 1311.

Food & Beverages

The typical Alemannic hotel restaurants radiate the ease with which guests have been served here for the past 9 centuries. Fresh and seasonal produce from our region is prepared here with due care and diligence. In addition we offer mainly local wines from private vineyards and winegrowers’ cooperatives from the Baden region.

Internet

Wireless Internet Hotspot is available in public areas and costs EUR 8.00 per hour. 

Parking

Private parking is possible on site (reservation is needed) and costs EUR 9.00 per day. 

Pets

Pets are allowed. Charges may be applicable.

Hotel policies

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled or modified up to 18:00 on the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled or modified later or in case of no-show, 80 percent of the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

19 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 7 years stay free of charge for extra beds.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All older children or adults are charged EUR 30.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 2.
