First mentioned in 1608 and family-owned since 1908, valued throughout, the inn „Zum Schwarzen Bären“, which is The Black Bear, in Emmersdorf in the Wachau has over the years become a first-class hotel and restaurant. We offer our guests many activities outside Zum schwarzen Bären, highly regarded, including guided bicycle tours, Nordic walking, “Heurigen” evenings with wine and schnapps tastings at our local winemaker in Joching, day trips to Vienna, barbecue evenings in the garden, wonderful hiking trails, bicycle rental, and much more. The restaurant is widely known for its excellent cuisine combining traditional and lighter, and above all, creative dishes.

Area information

The quiet village of Emmersdorf is directly opposite the famous Melk Abbey and is especially attuned to cyclists. Many cycling tours through the Wachau, with its mythical places, vineyards, palaces and castles, start here. There are romantic natural sights as well as many cultural and historic attractions to be discovered.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 1 day before the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

10 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is included. 

Meal Plan

Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 6 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 3 years stay free of charge for cots.  All children under 6 years stay free of charge for extra beds.  All children from 6 to 10 years are charged EUR 15.00 per night and person for extra beds.  All children from 11 to 14 years are charged EUR 20.00 per night and person for extra beds.  All older children or adults are charged EUR 25.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
