By Foot (from Edinburgh Waverley railway station):
- Take the exit toward Market Street, take the steps beside Escape Health Club to bring you up level to North Bridge. (To avoid the steps proceed up Cockburn Street which will bring you onto Royal Mile, head downward away from the Caste and follow directions as below).
- Turn right and walk to the traffic lights, make a left on to Royal Mile (also known as High Street).
- Walk down the street to the Museum of Childhood on the right side and go down South Gray's Close just next to it.

By Car (from the North):
- Approach Edinburgh on the A90, just over the Forth Road Bridge.

- Then turn left onto Torphichen Street A8.
- At the end bear right then at the T-junction turn left onto Morrison Street B700.
- Continue forward onto Bread Street, and then bear left onto West Port.
- Continue forward onto Grassmarket, bear right onto Cowgatehead and bear left onto Cowgate.

Directions from the South:
- Take the A701 and continue to follow signs for the city centre or A701.
- Continue forward onto Burdiehouse Road A701.
- Entering Edinburgh at Kaimes junction continue forward onto Howden Hall Road A701.
- Continue forward onto South Clerk Street A7, passing Edinburgh University.
- Turn right onto Infirmary Street, and then turn right onto High School Yards.

Directions from the East:
- Take the A1 (signposted city centre) passing the Meadowbank sports centre.
- Continue forward onto London Road - A1.
- Entering Leith at the traffic signals bear left onto Montrose Terrace A1.
- Entering Edinburgh at the traffic signals turn left onto Abbeymount, signposted Royal Mile.
- At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Canongate, passing the entrance to Holyrood House (on the left).
- At the traffic signals turn left onto St Marys Street and then turn right onto Cowgate.

- From the M8 eastbound, follow the signs for the city bypass A720, northbound towards Edinburgh West.
- At the Gogar roundabout take the 2nd exit and then merge onto Glasgow Road - A8 (signposted City Centre).
- Entering Edinburgh continue forward onto Glasgow road and at Drumbrae Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto St Johns Road - A8 (signposted City Centre).
- At Haymarket follow the signs for Dalkeith and East, then at the T-junction turn left onto Morrison Street B700.
- Continue forward onto Bread Street, then bear left onto West Port.
- Continue forward onto Grassmarket, bear right onto Cowgatehead and then bear left onto Cowgate.
