Area information

The Council Square is considered a symbol of Brasov, along with the Black Church. Situated in the old city, the Square was a commercial, social and cultural centre of the city in the course of several centuries. The Black Church was built in Gothic style, and it dominates the city area with its dimensions. The name of the church was originally St. Mary, and it was changed to the Black Church after the fire of 1689, when the smoke blackened its walls.
