In 16 acres of beautiful, valued throughout, peaceful gardens and with spectacular views out over the stunning scenery of the Peak District, this country house hotel dates back to the 1830s. Each of the en suite rooms has a bath with a shower over it. Tastefully furnished and decorated, and above all, all of the comfortable and spacious rooms have sofas, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryers and TVs with satellite channels. Family friendly, very much appreciated, Peveril Of The Peak Hotel prides itself on offering a warm welcome and a relaxing atmosphere. Some of the rooms are south facing and many have magnificent views of the fields and hills of the Peak District The award-winning restaurant serves some of the highest quality food in the Peak District, valued throughout, made using only the finest, freshest seasonal ingredients available locally.

Hotel details

The Peveril of the Peak Hotel takes its unusual name from a historic novel by Sir Walter Scott. Due to the hotel’s location on the hillside, there are no rooms available on the ground floor. From reception, access to the bedrooms is down a small set of stairs with 5 steps. The hotel does not currently have any rooms suitable for disabled guests or wheelchair users.

Area information

With the towering limestone hill of Thorpe Cloud as a backdrop and Thorpe pastures on one side, the hotel has numerous footpaths and trails passing through its grounds, along with the famous stepping stones on the River Dove, on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border. There are plenty of outdoor activities available in the area, including rock climbing, caving, cycling and water sports. Some of the country’s finest and most popular tourist attractions are within easy reach, Alton Towers theme park is only 7 miles away (11.5 km) away. Chatsworth House, the Heights of Abraham and Carsington Water are also all within easy reach. The cities of Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, Lichfield and Birmingham are all just a short drive away, so you can explore Derby Cathedral and some of the city’s many museums or visit historic Nottingham Castle and tour Robin Hood country. Alternatively, both cities offer great shopping for all ages.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is not applicable.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Full English breakfast is included in the room rate.  Continental breakfast costs GBP 5.95 per person.  Buffet breakfast costs GBP 9.95 per person.  Breakfast costs GBP 9.95 per person. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 12 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All older children or adults are charged GBP 15.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
