Area information Straubing is situated in the centre of the fertile Gäuboden on one of the large meandering bends of the Danube. The retail city with historically rich town square is reckoned to be one of the nicest cities in Bavaria. Large department stores, exclusive boutiques, rustic public houses, modern street cafes are as much a part of the town centre as the late gothic town houses. Straubing has an active cultural life and also offers a number of sports activities. For longer hikes, the Bavarian Forest mountain region is also very inviting.
