Occidental La Reconquista

Inaugurated in 1973, very much appreciated, it has been used to hold the most important events in the region. The Hotel de la Reconquista resides inside the former 18th century Hospital of the Principality of Asturias and is located in the centre of the city of Oviedo's residential and business neighbourhood. Their royal highnesses the Prince of Asturias, and above all, the King and Queen of Spain are guests of honour at Occidental La Reconquista every year in October and also attract numerous personalities from the worlds of science, letters, arts and politics.

Hotel details

The construction of this building was ordered under the rule of Ferdinand VI, by the eminent judge Isidoro Gil de Jaz (who came to Oviedo from 1749 to 1755). It was designed to serve as a hospital. The plans were drawn by the Asturian architect Pedro Antonio Menéndez. The main façade was completed in stonework in 1754 and the finishing touches were added to it in the form of an elaborate Spanish coat of arms. The one present to this day is a rennovated version of the original, made in 1958. Also completed in 1754 was the portico with its 7 semicircular arches.
