Hotel Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel is situated in the green heart of Holland. The city boundaries of Rotterdam are just 1 kilometre away and within a 15 minutes drive you’ll find yourself downtown Rotterdam. For those who have business to conduct; our hotel is centrally located between the various business area’s of Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel (Hoogeveenen), Nesselande, Capelle-Schollevaar, Rotterdam East, Rivium, Waddinxveen (Coenecoop) and Gouda (Goudse Poort). Rotterdam, well known for its harbour, has developed into a modern city with a trendy nightlife, large events and international festivals. Go shopping in the city centre of Rotterdam and have lunch at the famous Hotel New York (used to be the head office of the Holland-America line). Get a drink at one of the many terraces in the cosy harbours. Attend a concert or a great theatre show. You can also find great architecture in Rotterdam, like the cube houses and the Erasmus bridge. The fast water taxi is a thrill and the Spido boattrips give you the chance to see the harbour of Rotterdam. The marathon, Summer Carnival, Formula 1 Racing, Rotterdam has it all! Gouda, on the contrary, will take you back in time. The famous gothic city hall from the 15th century, the ”Waag” where people used to weigh cheese and the cheese market during the summer holidays. Than there is the Catherina Guesthouse with an old pharmacy and a collection of beautiful paintings by famous Dutch- and other European artists. Don’t forget to have a look at the beautiful façades, when you are shopping at the intimate city centre of Gouda. At the main square with its many terraces and restaurants, every Thursday morning and Saturday you can find a colorful market and on Wednesday from April until October there is the so called “Gouda’s Montmartre” with the antique and bric-a-brac market. If you are looking for a more quiet surrounding, you could take a walk in the various parks and at the Bergsche Bos or do it “the Dutch way” and rent a bike to discover the beautiful lakeside area of the Rottemeren. Check at the reception for bike rental. Kinderdijk, with its famous 19(!) windmills is another highlight to visit. Nearby the hotel is the lowest point of Holland with its accessory monument.
