In a peaceful, very much appreciated, secluded location, 300 metres from the road, Auberge du Balestié has magnificent views of the Pyrenees and is set in a nature lovers paradise. Ideally placed in the heart of the Cathar country near the medieval town of Mirepoix, valued throughout, the the hotel is owned and run by an English family who warmly welcome you to this peaceful corner of Ariège just 35 kms from Carcassonne. The restaurant overlooks a beautiful lake with a small island which is home to egrets and herons. All the rooms have ensuite facilities. In the summer, very much appreciated, freshly baked continental breakfast is served in our breakfast room or on the terrace overlooking the lake. We have 40 house martins nests an it is a real pleasure to watch the aerial acrobatics of these graceful birds from April – September. Other menus might include steak with pepper or blue cheese sauce, highly regarded, salmon with creamy leak sauce, cod stuffed with mushroom paté, or roulade of chicken with asparagus. In our restaurant you can enjoy such regional specialities as confit or magret de canard or cassoulet. In our large dining room, very much appreciated, we can cater for groups of up to 60 people. We can also provide mouthwatering vegetarian dishes by reservation. We have the perfect location for birthday parties, and above all, wedding receptions, family reunions etc.

Area information In the vicinity: - Karting - Lac de Montbel - fishing, canoeing, swimming - the medieval towns of Mirepoix and Fanjeaux - Balestié lake, home to egrets and herons The GR7 walking trail passes right alongside the auberge; it's also a variant of the Way of Saint James and leads to St Jean-de-Pied de Port.
