De Herberg is a good starting point to explore the area either by foot, car, motorbike, bicycle, train or bus.
There are several nice cities and countries in the vicinity:
- Belgium (the Ardennes, Liege with its French history)
- Germany (Eifel, Monschau, the Rhine and Aachen with its German heritage)
- Maastricht with its cultural attractions and the charming shopping streets.
- De Geul Valley with its beautiful walking routes and unique flora and fauna.
- Valkenburg with its various tourist attractions.
Various bike, mountain bike and walking routes pass by the front of De Herberg. The beautiful Park landscape naturally blends with the German Eiffel and the Belgium Ardennes. Enjoy the many mansions, farmhouses and castles.
By Car:
- Coming from the North on the A2 motorway, you take exit 51 (Bunde, Meerssen, Valkenburg).
- Follow the signs for Valkenburg.
- Take a left on the roundabout and once you have passed underneath the motorway, go right.
- Keep following the signs for Valkenburg and at Heerlen, you will pass 4 roundabouts (about 2 km).
- After 400 metres, you will automatically reach the A79 motorway. You will get on it from the left and take exit 2 (Meerssen, Houthem).
- Directly across from the motorway, you will find De Herberg.
- Coming from the East (Heerlen) on the A79 motorway, you take exit 2 (Meerssen, Houthem).
- Take a left at the end of the exit until you reach a T-junction.
- Take a left towards Valkenburg.
- After about 1.5 km, and after you passed underneath the motorway, you will find De Herberg on your left.
- Coming from the South on the A2 motorway passing Maastricht, you take the A79 motorway after the 6th traffic light.
- Take exit 2 (Meerssen, Houthem).
- Directly across from the motorway, you will find De Herberg.
- Coming from the West from Antwerp, follow the E313 / A13 motorway until you have passed Beringen.
- Take the A2 / E314 motorway towards Zolder, Houthalen and continue until Maasmechelen.
- Once you have crossed the border, you turn right onto the A2 motorway towards Maastricht.
- From here, follow the directions from the North.
- Coming from Brussels and Gent, it is better to travel via Liege.
- Follow the A3 / E40 motorway.
- Take the E2 / A25 motorway at Liege towards Maastricht.
- From here, follow the directions from the South.
- Coming from the Maastricht-Aachen Airport, take a left onto the service road.
- Continue on this road until the tunnel on the right, which takes you underneath the motorway and onto exit 51 of the A2 motorway.
- From here, follow the directions from the North.
By Train:
Take the train to Maastricht. From there, take the train to Heerlen and get off (after about 10 minutes) at the Houthem-St. Gerlach station. Walk to the end of the Stationstraat and take a right. Follow that road until you reach the village of Houthem (about 20 minutes). From Valkenburg station, it is possible to take a taxi if booked in advance.
From train stations Meersen, Valkenburg a/d Geul and Houthem-St.Gerlach, a local bus drives every other hour in both directions past De Herberg.
Shuttle Service:
We provide a shuttle service on demand to and from various surrounding cities and villages. This service needs to be pre-arranged and doesn’t drive during late night hours.
