All rooms have far-reaching views over the surrounding Hertfordshire countryside and are tastefully decorated in traditional country house style, with comfortable sitting areas and en suites with bath and shower facilities. Hotel details

Our 5,660 yard (par 70) course, built to USPGA specification, was originally designed by Henry Cotton and has been subsequently extended by Donald Steel. It is both challenging and enjoyable, featuring a mix of hazards through parkland and woodland copses. Because it stands on a chalk sub-strata, with a constant drainage system, we are able to offer year-round golfing on permanent tees and greens. The Coach House bar is perfectly placed for the 19th hole and offers all-day breakfasts as part of the menu. Annual membership is available on a 7-day and 5-day basis, and there are special rates for ladies and junior members. If you wish to include golf in your stay at the hotel, either as a private individual or as part of a corporate event, we have a number of packages to whet your appetite based on per person rates and including various food options. Or, there is a simple ‘Pay and Play’ option for non-members, with concessionary rates for seniors and students.

Food & Beverages

The Shendish serves mainly European cuisine, although the chef and team create dishes from all round the world for your dining pleasure. All menus include vegetarian options. Served in the stunning new Orangery or the more traditional Dickinson Room, the staff are committed to the highest standards of the culinary art. Breakfasts cater for all tastes, from full English to tea and toast, with most things in between. At lunch time there is traditionally a buffet as well as a selection of set menus, so whether you want just a sandwich or a full three-course meal, there are options to suit every taste. Dinner is normally a more formal affair with a table’d’hote menu, typically featuring a choice of four starters, main courses and desserts, or there is an a la carte menu with an even greater choice of imaginative dishes from around the world. Afternoon tea is also served in a variety of formats, there is a children’s menu for the under 14’s and a room-service menu, which includes items that are available 24 hours a day.

Wired internet is available in the hotel rooms and is free of charge.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 14:00 on the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

No deposit will be charged. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

15 % VAT is included.  Service charge is included.  City/tourist tax is included. 

Meal Plan

Full English breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 4 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All older children or adults stay free of charge for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
