Welcome to Gubbio Gubbio is spread out along the foothills of Mt. Ingino from where it has a commanding view of the fertile valley below. The primitive community of "Ikuvium", founded by the Umbrians, is located here. BRIEF HISTORY Gubbio, like many Umbrian municipalities situated in locations of economic or military importance, had to endure over many centuries, invasions, occupations, pillage, civil struggles, destruction and reconstruction. HOW TO GET TO GUBBIO BY CAR For those arriving from North there are 2 alternatives: 1) Come off the Bologna-Ancona-Taranto motorway (A14) at junction Fano and carry on in the direction of Roma for 78 km. 2) Come off the Milano-Firenze-Roma motorway (A1) at junction Valdichiana (not Arezzo), take dual carriageway connection to Perugia, then dual carriageway E45 in the direction of Cesena after Perugia. Exit from E45 at Umbertide-Gubbio and carry on in the direction of Gubbio for 25 Km. (if you prefer a more panoramic but also more twisting road exit at Bosco-Gubbio and carry on in the direction of Gubbio for 30 Km.) For those arriving from South there are 2 alternatives: 1) Come off the Milano-Firenze-Roma motorway (A1) at junction Orte, take the dual carriageway E45 in the direction of Cesena after Perugia . Exit from E45 at Umbertide-Gubbio and carry on in the direction of Gubbio for 25 Km. (if you prefer a more panoramic but also more twisting road exit at Bosco-Gubbio and carry on in the direction of Gubbio for 30 Km.) 2) Come off the Bologna-Ancona-Taranto motorway (A14) at junction Chiaravalle-Fabriano and take the dual carriageway in the direction of Fabriano. Then take the national road in the direction of Gubbio for about 40 Km..
