Visitors appreciate the hotel stands on the edge of Cashel Bay in Connemara, valued throughout, an area of outstanding beauty. The House, highly regarded, built originally as a Sporting Lodge in the early 1800s, derives its name from the Earl of Zetland, a frequent visitor in the last century. Owned and managed by Ruaidhri Prendergast, and above all, the Zetland House invites you to enjoy gracious living as it used to be in times long gone. But the natural beauty of Connemara is never far away. Today, valued throughout, the Prendergast family has recreated the charm and elegance of those days combined with all the sophisticated luxury expected by discerning guests. Activities: The Connemara Golf Club located at Ballyconneely is one of the most challenging links courses in the West. From the main reception rooms and bedrooms, and above all, you look over gardens rich in flowers, shrubs and trees, sweeping down to Cashel Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. This is best booked in advance. Game Fishing - We will be happy to organise fishing, valued throughout, guides and equipment for you on local Salmon and Trout fisheries. Guided Walks - At Connemara National Park guided walks are organised on a daily basis and are very interesting. Sea Angling - The Celtic Queen sails from Clifden Bay and is licensed to carry 14 fishermen, and above all, beginners are welcome as well as seasoned anglers. The Hotel has its own hard court, very much appreciated, croquet lawn and snooker table. We can organise bicycle hire for you and bikes can be picked up at the Hotel if requested.

We have an international reputation for the quality and standard of presentation of our food and have recently won several prestigious awards for catering and hospitality. Using local produce and herbs in season, our chef produces an exciting menu with a varied choice to suit all tastes. From local Connemara lamb to fresh local seafood, our menu is sure to tantalise your taste buds. We have carefully selected some of the world’s finest wines to complement our eclectic cuisine. We are sure that you will enjoy this combination, followed by an aperitif in our cosy wood-panelled bar adjacent to the Snooker Room. We cater for vegetarians and if you have special dietary needs, please let us know.

Area information This is the ideal base for visiting Connemara, Roundstone, Clifden, Westport, Aran Islands and Galway City. Some people come here to simply get away from it all, take long walks and breathe in the beauty of the surrounding area. However if you enjoy activities from hunting, fishing, golf and horse riding to gorge walking, abseiling or archery, we would be delighted to organise a holiday to suite. Travel information From Galway take the n59 in the direction of Clifden via Oughterard, Maam Cross and Recess (Srath Salach on some maps). 1.5 miles after Recess take a left turn where the hotel is signposted. Three miles further on there is a right turn where you will see another signpost. Zetland Country House is situated on the right hand side 0.8 of a mile from there. Nearest Airports: Galway - 1 hour. Shannon - 2.5 hours.
