Area information Carloforte, the only inhabited town of St. Peter's Island, dates back to 1738 and its community has Ligurian origins. By order of King Charles Emmanuel III of Sardinia, they came to Carloforte from an African island called Tabarka in Tunisia. The early life of the colony was extremely difficult, not only for environmental hardships. The French invasion in 1793, of which remains the one-armed statue as a remembrance, was erected by grateful Tabarkins for their King. On the September 3rd 1798 the island was invaded by Tunisian pirates and more than 800 Tabarkins were enslaved. Situated on the seafront in Carloforte, a short distance from the port where the ferries dock, it offers its customers the opportunity of a memorable stay in an elegant setting of superior quality.
