Area information Carloforte is a fishing and resort town on San Pietro Island, approximately 4 nautical (7 km) miles off the South Western Coast of Sardinia. It is within the central business district of Cagliari, Sardinia's capital. Carloforte is half way along the eastern coast of the island. It is a picturesque little town, found in front of the harbour. The main street is the lively tree-lined Via Roma, with the statue of Carlo Emanuele II (1788) the founder of the town. At its southern end, near the Saline"(salt-ponds), you will find the Torre di S. Vittorio, the site of an important observatory. There is a splendid view over the island from the high walls. The local people earn their living from the yachting, fishing (especially for lobsters and tuna fish), and the local mining activity and handicrafts. Carloforte is an enchanting little place to visit. Travel information From Cagliari port or airport follow the S.S.130, at 44° km turn left to Carbonia - Villamassargia and follow the indication to Porto Vesme - Carloforte to take the boat from Porto Vesme or follow the indication to Sant'Antioco Calasetta to take the boat from Calasetta.
