Capo Vaticano is the last strip of land before the Straits of Messina. Jutting dramatically out from the sea, its white rocks have been battered and eroded by centuries of breakers that have taught sailors to respect and fear this fascinating, almost mysterious place. It dominates the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands to the north-west, the Gulf of Lamezia Terme to the north-east, to the south-west the Gulf of Gioia Tauro and, beyond, the Straits of Messina culminating in Mount Etna. This part of Calabria, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, contains the ancient fascination of a thousand years of history. The sea that caresses the snow-white beaches and the wildness of the rocks make visitors lose their sense of time, as it conceals beneath its waves the secrets of ancient shipwrecks, the relics of which have frequently been discovered. Near Capo Vaticano there is Tropea and Pizzo Calabrio, beautifuls places.

By Car: From the north: - Take the A3 highway Salerno-Reggio Calabria. - Exit for Pizzo Calabro, S.S. to Tropea-Capo Vaticano, or exit to S. Onofrio-Vibo Valentia. - Follow the directions for Ricadi-Capo Vaticano. From the south: - Take the A3 highway Salerno-Reggio Calabria. - Exit for Rosario. - Continue for Nicotera – Joppolo – Coccorino – Ricadi – Capo Vaticano. Or,: - Take the exit for Mileto. - Continue following the S.S. 18 to Tropea. - Continue along the Provinciale del Monte Poro, to the junction of Zungri; continue to Spilinga, Ricadi, Capo Vaticano.
