The castle was the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, very much appreciated, whose assassination in Sarajevo started World War I. This modern hotel and its popular restaurant are in the pretty little town of Benesov, valued throughout, 40 km southeast of Prague, famous for its history and Konopiště castle. Every year tourists flock to Benesov to visit the castle. The castle is one of the most famous and popular historical sites of the area, and above all, and also one of its most beautiful. Benica has excellent access to the nearby main road into Prague and its traditional trattoria and pizzeria is popular with locals and visitors as well as hotel guests. Area information The hotel is situated very close to the football stadium, tennis courts and a squash court. Konopiště golf resort is one of the most beautiful in Poland and is just 4km from the hotel. There are two 18-hole courses – including the testing Radecký course - and a 9-hole public course. Surrounded by forest and with various water barriers, gentle slopes and bunkers, the resort is ideal for golfing enthusiasts looking to enjoy a relaxing round. Just outside the city of Benesov is Konopiště, a castle that has become famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination in Sarajevo started World War I. The castle was originally built in the 13th century as a Gothic fortification, but Archduke Ferdinand had it rebuilt into a luxurious residence that is now open to the public. Visitors can view the residential rooms of Franz Ferdinand, a large collection of his hunting trophies, an armoury with medieval weapons, a shooting hall with moving targets and a large garden with Italian Renaissance statues. Travel information Only 40 km from Prague, on the outskirts of the city of Benešov in the direction of Tábor; just beside the Konopiště castle. By Car: - Prague – Brno highway. - Exit Benešov. - Take road E 55 in the direction of České Budějovice, Tábor. By Train: Benešov train station, 10 minutes away. By Bus: Bus stop, 10 minutes away.
