Covering all types of terrain from rocky crags to muddy forests, clients will experience the awesome capabilities of the chosen Land Rover, whilst enjoying breathtaking views across the Wicklow Mountains and the Irish Sea. Under close instruction, clients completing an off-road course gain a fascinating insight into the capabilities of a modern off-road vehicle. Before the vehicles are taken off-road, drivers undergo a period of training covering various topics including an understanding of how basic 4-wheel drive systems operate. The courses will provide the opportunity to understand the theory of off-road driving, looking at risk assessment and hazards. Ireland Xtreme @ Macreddin Woods operate a fleet of specially prepared Land Rovers. These include Defender, Discovery, Freelander and Range Rover, all of which are class beating and prepared to the highest standards. All Land Rovers are meticulously maintained and serviced regularly in Land Rover workshops. Some of the Products offered at Macreddin Woods 1. Corporate tuition - 4x4 driving and team building 2. The Urban Challenge - Guided treasure hunts around Dublin and Wicklow region 3. Corporate Chauffeur Driving - chauffeur transfer services using top-of-the-range vehicles 4. Professional Instruction - for companies and semi-state bodies with employees that may be required to drive off-road in the course of their work Both 4x4 owners and non-owners alike will learn that off-roading is more than just a great pastime; in many environments, it is a necessity. It is possible for customers to take anything from a half-day vehicle familiarisation course to a full advanced off-road tuition course. For those not familiar with off-roading, the Familiarisation Course gives participants the chance to taste what these 4x4 vehicles are actually capable of doing, at the hands of an experienced instructor. This course will guide customers to an acceptable but basic standard in off-road driving techniques. They will discover a challenging course to build on current off-road driving skills (if any), give relevant experience and help to understand the controls and working of the vehicle. Moving on to the Level I driving course this full day introduces the necessary skills to drive off-road with the emphasis on safety, observation, planning and manoeuvring, while at the same time tackling difficult obstacles. Costs: Price per person per half day 195 + VAT @ 21% Minimum price per half day (8 people or 2 vehicles) 1560 + VAT @ 21% Price per person per full day - including lunch: 295 + VAT @ 21% Minimum price per full day (8 people or 2 vehicles - including lunch) 2360 + VAT @ 21% Environmental Care: Driving a 4x4 off-road is an exhilarating experience, but it has to be balanced with care for the environment. Ireland Xtreme has worked with government agencies, environmental groups and local planning authorities whilst designing the product range. Ireland Xtreme ensures that environmental best practice lies at the heart of all its activities, from the design of the vehicles and by encouraging responsible off-road driving at all levels by making drivers aware of hazardous ground conditions and other risk-related issues. Ireland Xtreme Off-Road courses are carefully managed in a sustainable way to ensure there is no irreparable damage to or erosion of the local landscape. A measure of wear and tear is inevitable in off-road driving, but the courses are maintained as carefully as the vehicles. Repair, regeneration and replanting are continuous processes, ensuring that off-road driving at the centres will be a pleasure for many years to come.

Restaurant / Dining Information
The Organic Trust Certified Strawberry Tree Restaurant, winner of Food & Wine Magazine's Best Leinster Restaurant 2003, serves only wild & organic foods and the innovative cuisine is matched by dramatic surroundings. Our walk in wine cellar carries a diverse and delectable selection of wines. What organically certified means in layman's terms: Yes To: Natural ingredients, healthy soil, genetic diversity, natural landscape and habitats. No To: Harmful Pesticides, Herbicides, GMO's, Irradiation, Fumigation, Synthetic Additives and Artificial Chemical Fertilizers. What organically certified means in legal terms: The word Organic' has legal connotations when applied to Enterprises that are managed and products produced in compliance with (EEC) Regulation 1804 / 99 as amended and in accordance with the Standards for Organic Food & Farming in Ireland (September 2002 Edition). The Dept. of Agriculture together with The Organic Trust has the authority to issue such certificates. What organically certified means to The Strawberry Tree: Quite simply, it puts the Restaurant into a league of it's own. Not one other restaurant in Ireland is certified, with maybe only a dozen or so on mainland Europe. What organically certified means to our customers: Well, what's on the menu for them? Or more to the point, what is not on the menu! Irish and E.U. law does not allow conventional foods in the kitchen of The Strawberry Tree. So they can be sure that the ingredients supplied to us by our Organic Producers, contain none of the nasties listed above. The framed Organic Licences in the reception are a comfort to our customers in a time when everyone is concerned about Chemicals, Pesticides and Genetically Modified foods. They are a legal assurance that their meal will be as nature intended - fresh and without any of the hidden additives of conventional foods.

  • Area Attractions : Glendalough Glendalough 'the glen of the two lakes', is a truly spellbinding place - an ancient monastic settlement and two clear water lakes beneath the sheer cliffs of a deep valley which was carved out by glaciers during the Ice Age. The monastic settlement has been a centre for pilgrims and visitors since its foundation by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Kevin is thought to have come from the more fertile lands of County Kildare and like many other men of sanctity in early times, desired solitude for his life of prayer and contemplation. Thus he withdrew into the thinly peopled mountains and set up his hermitage at Glendalough. The settlement expanded and flourished for many years before being finally destroyed in the 16th century. The present remains, some of the most important of their kind in Ireland, tell only a small part of the monastic story. The buildings which survive - round tower, cathedral, stone churches and decorated crosses - probably date from between the 8th and 12th centuries. The famous Round Tower, about 34m high and 16m in circumference at the base, is still in near perfect condition even though it is almost 1,000 years old. The excellent Glendalough Visitor Centre provides regular exhibitions, informative guided tours of the monastic site as well as an audio-visual show about the rich heritage of the area. Elsewhere around the upper and lower lakes there are a number of well-known walking routes, which allow visitors to take in as much or as little of the surrounding scenery as they wish. Once the monastic capital of Europe, Glendalough attracts up to 500,000 visitors annually. The ruins of the seven churches and the 6th century round tower owe their origins to St. Kevin, the hermit who founded the monastic city and who lived in a cave - St. Kevin's Bed - overlooking the Upper Lake. Avondale House & Parnell National Memorial Park, Rathdrum Avondale House was the birthplace and home of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-1891) one of the greatest political leaders in Irish history. You can visit and tour the beautiful Georgian House, AV presentation and magnificent forest park of over 500 acres. The beautiful Georgian House, designed by James Wyatt and built in 1777 contains fine plasterwork and many original pieces of furniture. The Memorial Park contains walks, restful seating areas, ponds and a beautiful bronze statue of Parnell and the Feagh McHugh O'Byrne Commemorative Stone. Powerscourt House & Gardens One of the World's Great Gardens. Powerscourt is situated 19km (12 miles) south of Dublin in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. It is a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, statuary and ornamental lakes together with secret hollows, rambling walks and over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. The 18th Century Palladian House now incorporates an innovative shopping experience, terrace cafe and house exhibition. Facilities include speciality shops, interiors gallery, garden pavilion and two 18-hole, championship golf courses.
