Le Terrazze Via Nastro Verde, 98 Sorrento | - Area Attractions : SORRENTO On the southern side of the Gulf of Naples, in a splendid panoramic position, stands Sorrento, whose name derives, according to tradition, from the Sirens, the mythical creatures who enthralled sailors with their song. Boasting well equipped bathing plants, those of Marina grande and Marina piccola, modern Hotel accommodations and efficient conference centers. Sorrento is still today one of the most famous and visited holiday centers in the region and in the whole of Italy. It is also noted for its citric fruit production, especially lemons, as well as walnuts and exquisite wines. Finally, lace and woodcarving crafts, with their ancient origins, are flourishing. The Residence Le Terrazze is located about 48 km from NAPLES, capital city of Campania. Nowadays an active commercial and industrial center, with a pronounced tourist vocation, boasting one of the foremost Mediterranean ports. Naples has a rich architectural and monumental heritage, with superb examples of the Gothic and Baroque, and an extraordinary collection of ancient remains coming from nearby Roman centers such as Pompeii and Herculaneum, currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum. Among the most important remains, the early Christian catacombs of St. Gennaro and St. Gaudioso, the Baptistery of St. Giovanni in Fonte, from the Constantine period, the medieval Castel Nuovo, with its splendid Triumphal Arch, considered one of the greatest expressions of Southern Italian Renaissance art, the cathedral, the churches of St. Chiara and St. Lorenzo Maggiore should not be missed. Finally, the cookery, with outstanding seafood dishes, pressed pork meats, dairy produce and sweets and highly prized wines is well worth honoring. The Residence Le Terrazze is located about 29 km from POMPEII. A small town in the Province of Naples, located on one of the slopes of Vesuvius, modern Pompeii, developed around the sanctuary founded in 1876 by Bartolo Longo, stands right next to the ancient settlement, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. The old city, growing out of the fusion of various Oscan centers, perhaps at the end of the seventh century BC, received an influx from neighboring Greek settlements, was later occupied first by the Etruscans and then the Samnites. The city, after centuries of oblivion, was rediscovered at the end of the sixteenth century. The excavations, began in 1748 on the orders of Charles of Bourbon, and were conducted ever more rigorously during the nineteenth century, since then they have not been interrupted again. About three fifths of its entire area has been unearthed, with more than 900 buildings uncovered, nowadays together with Herculaneum and Stabiae it makes up the most extraordinary available evidence of daily life, as well as of the public and private buildings of the ancient world. The majority of the unearthed finds are displayed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. CAPRI Opposite the Sorrento peninsula, only 5 km. from Punta Campanella, lies the isle of Capri, one of the most fascinating places in the Province of Naples and the whole of Italy. Divided into two districts of Capri and Anacapri and with the quaint villages of Marina Grande, around the harbor and Marina Piccola, the isle has a prevalently mountainous landscape, with two massifs - Mount Tiberio, to the east and Mount Solaro to the west. The exceptional wealth of natural beauty, the stunning scenery, the extraordinary enchantment of its landscape, together with the modernity and efficiency of its accommodation and bathing structures, explain Capri*s unending allure and fame. ISCHIA The largest of the Neapolitan islands, lies off the southern arm of the Gulf of Naples, about 10 km. from the mainland. With volcanic origins, it has prevalently mountainous terrain, with Mount Epomeo the highest peak, reaching 788 m. The coastline is very jagged with fascinating promontories and enchanting coves, stupendous bays and romantic creeks, some of which are only accessible by boat. Today the island is divided into 6 village areas: Ischia, which is the most important center, with two wards Ischia Ponte, the old sea village, and Ischia Porto, the most modern and exclusive area. Then, Forio, Barano, Casamicciola Terme, Lacco Ameno and Serrara Fontana. Called the Green island, because of its lush Mediterranean vegetation that typifies it, and the island of health, for the wealth and quality of its thermal springs, Ischia is one of the most visited destinations for tourists from all over the world, attracted by the fascination of a place that embraces nature, culture, tradition and modernity, history and myth. POSITANO The Residence Le Terrazze is located about 17 km from Positano which is one of the most interesting places on the Amalfi coast. The centre of the town is enchanting: here in small Flavio Gioia square, among the delightful white or pastel-coloured houses, with their typical cubic shape and the greenery of luxuriant gardens, stands the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, with its splendid majolica dome. Considered one of the best-equipped and exclusive tourist resorts in Italy, also famed for its flourishing fashion tailors, Positano perfectly combines the beauty of its natural surroundings and numerous beaches, Marina Grande, Ciumicello, La Porta, Arienzo e Fornillo, with the fascination of its ancient fishing port and the charm of its steps and lanes crowded with quaint colourful shops.
