• Fondation Beyeler : With the inauguration of the Foundation Beyeler, Hildy and Ernst Beyeler's art collection with exceptional works of Classical Modernism, Basel gained anothe cultural attraction worth seeing. The collection, composed of approx. 150 paintings and sculptures, documents a personal view of Classical Modernism, with extreme quality requirements. It includes late impressionist work of Cezanne, van Gogh and Monet; the transition to Cubism of Picasso and Braque, and representative groups of work by artists such as Miro, Mansse, Kandisky, Klee as well as works by American Expressionists Basebtz and Kiefer.
• Museum Jean Tinguely : This museum is devoted to the life and work of this major sculptor in iron. Opened in October 1996, it is founded by F. Hoffmann-La Roche, AG. The permanent exhibition shows works from the artist's beginning in the fifties - with motor-driven reliefs, drawing machines and the scrap assemblages of the sixties - through the black-painted machine sculptures, to the large sculptures and pandemotic cycles of his last creative period.

• Museum of Fine Arts : The world famous Museum of Fine Arts houses the collections of the Dep of Painting and Prints and Drawings. The emphasis on upper Rhelish paintings and drawings from 1400 to 1600 and on 19th and 20th Century art.
• "Tinguely" Fountain : Jean Tinguely's original fountain (1977) near the Municipal Theatre. Its impressive size is handsomely set off by the water patterns from its fountain.
• Zoo Basel : The "Basler Zoo" deserves its great reputation. Some 4,000 animals and 600 different species live in a magnificent park right in the middle of the town. A trip to the zoo is a fascinating experience for grown-ups and children.
• Basel Carnival : Basel keeps fairly quiet about the three crazy days of Carnival. Though the secret is jealously guarded, this does not discourage visitors from flocking in ever greater numbers each year to feast their eyes on this colorful spectacle.
