• The great Copper Mountain : Falun Copper Mine, Stora Kopparberget or Tiskasj?berg - are a few of the many names applied to this historic site, now promoted to a World Heritage by UNESCO, "priceless to all of mankind". The Copper Mountain is Sweden's oldest and most important mine works. The mine has been excavated and chiselled throughout centuries by thousands of miners.
• The World Heritage Visitors Centre : The World Heritage visitors centre is situated at the Great Copper Mountain (Stora Kopparberget) and Falun Copper Mine which constitute the core of the World Heritage in Falun. The building contains information about UNESCO, world heritages internationally, nationally and the unique mining and town district which represent the World Heritage of Falun. There are computers available for information search, a reception with tourist information and the possibility to purchase tickets in addition to a souvenir shop. Above all, the World Heritage House is intended to be an appetizer inviting to excursions around the whole World Heritage of Falun.
• Carl Larsson House : Of course, here we could tell you the complete story of Carl Larsson. How he grew up poor and worked his way up to the top rank of Swedish artists. That story has already been told in a number of books.So please take a look instead in the literature section of this homepage to find what interests you. If you want to read his own words, his autobiography 'JAG' (I) is strongly recommended. An often humorous and easy to read book, in which Carl Larsson made his last notes only two days before his death 1919. It was, however, not published until 1931, two years after his wife Karin passed away. A brief biography can be read here if that is sufficient for you. Carl Larsson is mostly known for his water colour paintings and his pictures of his family in Sundborn, an idyllic village whose lovely surroundings emphasise the happy family life shown in his paintings. Together with his wife Karin, who was also a very talented artist, he made his home into a very special place. In fact so special that it drew tourists to Sundborn even when he was still living. Today almost 60.000 visitors a year come to admire the remarkable interior decoration of this house. Carl Larsson was a very productive artist. In the Paintings section we present a small selection of his works, together with one example of his numerous illustrations in other authors books. Carl Larsson became known to a broader public when he published his paintings in his books. In a way his books were the 'Internet of the turn of the past century'.
