The notorious plotter intent on blowing up the Houses of Parliament on November 5th 1605 was born here and today the Inn that bears his name is the finest in the city and one of the best preserved in the country. Standing in the shadow of York Minster is the ancient the hotel. You can stay here too with twelve beautiful bedrooms and the stunning Belfry Suite- the hotel is a place lost in time to which you will return time and again. With gas lighting- timber floors- roaring log fires- huge settles- ales served from barrels behind the bar and a grandfather clock ticking in the corner- this dark and mysterious Inn is a treasure to behold. Our chefs prepare good- simple homemade Yorkshire food. This ancient Inn is the home of the world famous Guy Fawkes Ghost Walk. Our own Guy Fawkes 1605 Strong Ale and The Conspirator are both highly recommended. We always use fresh- local and in-season ingredients for our dishes and we have the most delicious selection of pies to tempt anyone-We take our Real Ales seriously and have up to eight on offer at any one time. We own some of York s finest eateries- including the revered Harvilles Restaurant- and we will be glad to assist with priority reservations at any of our restaurants and bars.
