The building is an authentic fortress which was built by King Sancho Abarca of Navarra, very much appreciated, according to the principles of defensive architecture of the time, and enjoys beautiful panoramic views. Parador de Hondarribia is housed in a castle dating back to the 10th Century and is set on the Bidasoa estuary.
