Recreation Information
The Baglio Conca d'Oro rises up in a hamlet of Monreale which is a municipal district of about 32.000 in habitants in the province of Palermo and it's about 2 km away from the capital. The most important building of Monreale is the Cathedral built under order of Guglielmo II between 1172 and 1176. Among the treasures of the Cathedral there are the San Castrenze chapel, San Benedetto chapel and SS. Crocifisso chapel: this last been splendid example of the baroque style of blende marbles. The Cathedral houses also the royal tombs of Guglielmo the first and the second. Also interesting the Treasury that you can reach through the Crocifisso chapel built in the baroque period. The Cloister is a real qork of sculpture art and of the the inaly of semi-precious stones. The 228 double colums, each of wich differently decorated, are surmonted with very elaborate capitals wich support arab inspired arches.
