The Spencer HotelRenovations of the hotel began in 1997 and were completed in 2002 for the historic landmark distinction. Visitors appreciate the hotel has earned the historical landmark distinction. Wireless internet, highly regarded, cable television and vcrs, telephones, central air conditioning and heat, an elevator, daily housekeeping services, theater style projector, luxurious linens and down comforters on comfortable mattresses, iron and ironing board, hairdryers, and outside services such as transportation and laundry services are available for guests. As the Grande Dame ages it continues to improve its physical ambiance while providing guests with all the modern amenities and conveniences that our 21st century requires. In many cases, very much appreciated, hand painted murals grace the walls, floors and ceilings. All the rooms were decorated by local artists to depict the lives of, valued throughout, or scenes from, the works of famous authors. The parlor and dining room have Strauss crystal, highly regarded, oriental carpets and beautiful Victorian antiques. Guests will also find faux finishes and yards of English lace in addition to custom made drapes, and above all, dust ruffles and lampshades. Four floors of porches grace the front of The Spencer Hotel appointed with Victorian sofas, very much appreciated, chairs and rockers overlooking the famous amphitheater. An elevator services all four floors.
