DOONBEG GOLF CLUB
Perhaps the best benefit of being a guest at The Lodge At Doonbeg Golf Club is the ability to play golf. The Greg Norman designed links course plays along 1.5 miles of beach and dunes. The ocean is visible from the green- fairway or tee on 16 of the 18 holes. The par 72 layout features a single loop of nine holes out and nine back. The course plays 6885 yards from the back tees. A practice area- driving range- luxurious clubhouse- bag drying room- well trained caddies and pro shop are available. The course has a rich history- even though it opened for play in 2002. In 1892 officers of the Scottish black watch regiment first identified Doonbeg as their first choice for a links course in the southwest of Ireland. Due to transportation challenges they ultimately settled on a course at Lahinch to the north. After a delay of over 100 years- Doonbeg golf club is the product of the combined genius of Greg Norman and Kiawah development partners. The Norman design team employed a least disturbance philosophy when creating the course- letting nature determine the best layout for the holes rather than the bulldozer. Most fairways were simply mowed to play the natural contours- and golf play was routed around the oldest intact dunes to protect what nature carved out centuries ago. Golf is available year-round- subject to course condition and weather. Course closed Mon-Wed 01Nov through 28Feb.Golf course tee times 0724am- 1736pm. The concierge at the lodge can arrange tee times for guests.
