Gordes-en-Provence

Northern Provence is an exciting area to explore. It is dominated by Mont Ventoux, whose white scree makes it look snowcapped even in summer, and the vast nature park of Luberon. Picturesque villages perch atop the rugged foothills, the most famous of which is Gordes. Nearby is a bizarre village made up of 'bories' - beehive dwellings constructed of dry stone since neolithic times and inhabited until early last (20th) century. Unlike its namesake, Les Bories is a cool, contemporary oasis within the flowering wilderness.
